Week 1 - Trial Sketchup Models:

I used the words "poise" and "cascade" for my concept drawing, sourced from the artist Louise Bourgeois and Issey Miyake respectively.

"Maman" - Louise Bourgeois (poise)

"Billowing Pleats" - Issey Miyake (cascade)

Below is the concept section based upon these two words:

From this sketch, I further developed the building concept using further sketches and Google Sketchup.

Introduction:

Three images:

I can't say for certain if this is my best work, but it is the first drawing of a series I completed for the HSC. I remember that it was when I decided to truly push myself in improving my sketches, so for me, that is what makes this one that I am proud of.

The Duomo di Firenze, or Cathedral of Saint Mary in Florence, Italy, is one of my favorite buildings. The contrast between the sheer scale of the building, yet also the detail of its construction is what makes it so amazing. I also admire the way that its construction blends with the surrounding city, something that not all large cathedrals are able to do.

This is one of my photos from central Australia, of a lone rock formation called "Rainbow Rock". I like it due to the layered colouring, and the almost surreal atmosphere of the landscape. While not obvious from the photo, the rock is near a large salt lake, which further enhances the beauty of the scene. I am interested in the way that such a large structure can remain in balance with the surrounding environment, being prominent, but not out of place.
