36 Custom Textures:

Three textures were then selected from this and re-rendered in a digital format:

Below, you can see the usage of the custom textures in the Sketchup Model:

Moving Elements:

Element 1: Sliding doors between rooms and exterior to allow for flexible usage of spaces. This promotes the reuse of rooms for a variety of purposes, and encourages an active and dynamic learning environment.

Element 2: A rotating sunshade traverses around the exterior of the upper level, protecting these rooms from direct sunlight. The shade pans around following the movement of the sun, allowing the rooms to maintain good visibility and natural lighting, without excess direct sunlight.

The Architecture:

Early development based upon the Villa Marea design by Alvar Aalto:

Concept Sketches:

The basic structure is a central column with a series of demountable and prefabricated rooms attached. These rooms are joined to one another, and use sliding doors to enable the transformation of spaces. A rotating sunshade protects the upper level from direct sunlight, traversing around as it follows the path of the sun.

Development of Sketchup Model:

The bridge will connect the Squarehouse, the Roundhouse, and the Tyree Building. The Squarehouse is important due to the workshop facilities available there, while the Tyree Building is a research building with a focus on energy technologies, which is relevant to the study of architecture. The Roundhouse is also important due to the value of relaxation and recreation in a balanced lifestyle.
